- Mirror. This is probably the most obvious in the list. Other than touching up makeup and fixing a hair out of place, a mirror can also be used to reflect light.
- Powder. If hot or humid, skin tends to get shiny and oily. Translucent powder will minimize the shine.
- Bobby pins, safety pins, clamps...oh’ my! Whether it be pinning down flyaway hair, keeping your undershirt strap out of the shot or securing items in and out of place, these items can become your best friend on photo day.
- Bug spray. Shooting outdoors, especially after a rain storm or muggy day it is safe to bring bug spray.
- Lint roller. Everything shows up in photos!
- Tide stick. Accidents can happen at any time and anywhere. Be safe, not sorry.
- Water. Stay hydrated. I can’t count the times I have taken photos where people have gotten light headed.
- Benadryl and Aspirin. Nothing ruins a photo day more than an allergic reaction or stress headache.
- Sewing Kit and Small Scissors. A loose button, a popped zipper or worse a loose string that won’t come unraveling. These two items will come in handy.
- Hangers. This last item may sound silly, but when taking photographs many like to change outfits. Be prepared with a few hangers so that clothes remain wrinkle free.

As a professional photographer I have come across many photo malfunctions such as a blown zipper, missing button or bee sting. It is important to plan ahead for your portrait or wedding sessions which will reduce stress in the long run. My portrait and wedding photography survival kit consists of the following items:

Smartphone Camera versus DSLR Professional Camera
Smartphone cameras are far superior than they used to be and can be a great alternative to lugging around bulky lighting equipment. However, when it comes to professional photographs, smartphones are not nearly as efficient as a DSLR Camera.
- Capturing tight spaces. Even with a wide angle attachment for a smartphone, capturing a tight space such as a bathroom for a real estate listing will come out looking tiny.
- Flash. A smartphones flash is no different from a pen light. It is tiny and direct. A DSLR lens takes in a broader range of light and disperses light more evenly making the image look more natural.
- Quality. Even on a high resolution; smartphone cameras often come out grainy and darker, not giving the photograph the quality it deserves. Sure, you can use a filter, but even those don’t offer many variations. A professional photograph can adjust their camera on the fly and provide a quality far superior than a smartphone camera.

New Year, New You; Professional Headshots
We’ve all heard the saying don’t judge a book by its cover, but unfortunately you have less than 10 seconds to make a good impression, whether it be a job interview, networking, or connecting online. In a technology connected world, people will often look you up prior to meeting in person, or calling your place of business.
Instead of using a selfie stick, or smartphone camera, consider taking a professional headshot. A typical session lasts 15-30 minutes and consists of a traditional head/shoulder pose. You will obtain proofs after the session and receive one high resolution image on a CD.
Time is precious, therefore you can come to or studio, or we can come to you. If having an event, adding the service of getting a portrait done could act as a great incentive for attending the event. With our on-site printing capabilities, we can take photos upon people entering the event and have them ready to go by the time they depart.
To learn more about our professional headshots contact 860.410.4303 or studio@premierportraits.net

Why Your Company Holiday Party Needs a Photobooth
There are plenty of reasons for your company holiday party to have a photobooth! It is a fun and exciting addition to any party or event and will provide a fun-filled experience in a variety of ways.
Customizable, Branded Photos
Colors, company logo, hashtags, branded message - all of this can be customized to represent your company which will serve as a keep-sake for your employees. They can hang up in their cubicle or office, or can bring home to share with their families and friends. It will continue to live-on as a cheerful, positive experience. If shared on social media, the photos will enhance your company's presence online and will show that you are a company that works hard, but also knows how to treat their employees and can have a little fun.
Build Office Morale
Oftentimes, employees are friends, not co-workers. Most of us spend more time at work then with our families. A photobooth will switch up your “all work no play” policy and provide a fun experience for employees to kick-back, relax and have some fun. Instead of gathering around the water cooler - the photobooth will serve as a way to interact with one another in a more down to earth, fun atmosphere. The holiday work party will carry over into the workplace, so why not create a positive experience that brings everyone together and builds morale.
It’s Fun!
Of course, the top reason for adding a photo booth to your party is simply that is fun! With exciting props, fun backdrops, and super creative photo options, all of your guests will get to loosen up a little and have fun. They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Imagine the story you’ll be able to tell from a couple hundred pictures!
Ready to rent a photobooth for your next event? Contact us today to learn more about our photobooth options at 860.410.4303 or studio@premierportraits.net

Four Ways to Use a Professional Photographer for your Wedding Day
When it comes to getting married, there are a variety of reasons to use a professional photographer. The good news is that most wedding photographers offer packages that include a variety of different photo sessions. Here are 4 ways to use a professional photographer for your wedding day.
Quality Engagement Photo Sessions
Undoubtedly there are some great editing apps available for the average person's cell phone. But there is nothing like working with a pro who has years worth of experience when it comes to lighting, camera angles and suggestions on posture and poses. A great photographer will allow you to be comfortable, and take photos in a natural setting with you laughing, talking and interacting. Your engagement photo session should be a long lasting memorable experience.
Save the Date Cards
To compliment your engagement sessions, we can take your best photos and place them in a montage with your ‘Save the Date” information. It is a great way for others to enjoy some of your favorite photos and will more than likely end up hung on the fridge to be enjoyed up until the wedding date.
Videography on the Big Day
Photographs of your big day is a must! But what about video? A good videographer records your big day and guests won’t even notice they are there. Nothing captures the day's events then video. It serves as a great addition to wedding photography.
Photobooth
The wedding vows are over, you make your way into the cocktail reception….and wait! We’ve all been there. A photobooth serves as a fun way for guests to interact with one another and kickstarts the after-party with laughter. Photo strips can be customized to include your wedding colors, name/date, logo, etc. And the best part is; these photos are available same-day and will serve as a nice take-home piece to commemorate this special day.
If you have just gotten engaged or are interested in learning more about our wedding services, please contact Premier Portrait Studio at 860.410.4303 or studio@premierportraits.net

We even have the capability to upload all the event photos online so that everyone can view the proofs, and purchase only what photos interest them.

These are just some of the questions to take into consideration when taking large group photos.

Video Marketing for Business
85% of businesses use video as a marketing tool. 87% say it has increased traffic to their website, 83$ say it has helped them generate leads and 95% say that video has helped increase user understanding of their product or services. [1] These are some strong statistics.
With video easily at our fingertips on our phones, laptops and tablets; having video for your business is becoming an industry standard. In this article we’d like to explain some of the most popular ways you can use video to highlight your business.
Video Testimonials
Whether your business is large or small, it more than likely depends heavily on word-of-mouth. Testimonials strengthen your credibility. With video, a testimonial can create more trust with an honest, expressive review.
Company Profile
A Company Profile or ‘about’ video is the most common business video. It is typically under 1 minute long and gives a brief overview of the company, products and services. It serves as an introduction video for those unaware of what your company is about and can be helpful when introducing yourself to new prospective clients.
Industrial / How-It-Works
If you have a business that is very visual, an industrial or how-it-works video is typically aimed at a specific audience within a specific industry. For ex. A fourslide spring manufacturing producer would aim a video to show how it works and aimed towards spring manufacturing companies. These videos would be more than a typical generic video about the company.
Promotional
A promotional video is designed to showcase a product or service. It’s main focus is to improve a company's brand recognition, while engaging prospective customers. These types of videos should easily communicate your message and be memorable.

Wedding Photo Booths
Photobooths are a great addition to any event, especially a wedding! They bring people together and can be used in a variety of ways to spruce up your special day.
Cocktail hour at weddings can often be awkward as your guests attempt to mingle and make conversation with people they haven’t met. People naturally gravitate towards photobooths to check out the props and start conversations. It serves as a great way to break the ice among guests.
As the photos start to flow, they serve your guests as a great take-away and visual reminder of when and where the photo was taken. If you are interested in having a photobooth at your wedding, prices start at $500 for a couple of hours. They include unlimited photos which print as a photo strip customized for your event. These customized strips can include the date, theme, colors, event name and even a logo.

Preparing for your Portrait Photo Session: Part One
When preparing for your portrait photo session, you should take into consideration many factors,
including by not limited to clothes, props, lighting, location, backdrop, and vision. This article will
specifically cover what type of portrait you will be taking and where.
What type of portrait will you be taking?
A family portrait session is much different than a school, business or newborn portrait. Pertaining to
clothes, a general rule of thumb for group or family portraits is to choose 1 to 3 colors which are
similar tones that go well together. The days of white shirts and khaki pants are over. Choose soft
colors like light blue, gray and blush or warm colors such as brown, orange and burgundy
.
School and business portraits are often taken indoors with a backdrop in the background. Solid colored shirts are often your best bet for these types of portraits. If you like white, we suggest going with an ivory or off-white instead. If you are looking to add another layer of customization, try utilizing a scarf, blazer, cardigan or jewelry.

If you like white, we suggest going with an ivory or off-white instead. If you are looking to add another layer of customization, try utilizing a scarf, blazer, cardigan or jewelry.
Newborn portrait sessions are becoming very popular and are often more fun and creative. Newborns
in their natural, no clothes environment are one way to take newborn portraits. Another way is to use
props such as hats, sunglasses, toys and stools to spruce up the portrait. If you are looking to have
your newborn wear clothes, solid colors, again are your best option.
Where will you be taking to portrait?
When it comes to choosing where to take your portrait you have three main options. (1) Indoors in a
professional studio. (2) On site at your home or office (3) Outdoors.
If you choose to have your portrait taken indoors, most professional photographers have dozens
(upon dozens) of backgrounds to choose from. You will want to make sure you choose a background
that will match well with your outfit. If you chose to wear grey, choosing a grey backdrop may not be
the best choice.
Many choose to take their portraits on-location or outdoors. You will want to take your location into consideration when choosing your outfit. For example, if it is winter and there is snow on the ground, white is generally not a good color option. Red on the other hand is. If taking your portrait in the Fall when there is beautiful colors on the trees - orange, tan, dark browns are good complementary colors for your outfit.
Ultimately, the vision you have for your portrait comes down to how you will execute your portrait
photo session. Choose a professional photographer who will walk you through the whole experience
from start to finish. The session itself will last about an hour, but your photographer should invest
additional time to cropping, photo shopping, etc to present you with the best proofs possible.

Spruce Up Your Website in 2019
In today’s world of ever-changing technology it doesn’t take much for a website to appear old and
outdated. While a complete web redesign often makes since, there are often more simpler, affordable
ways to spruce it up.
- Use white space. With reading devices becoming smaller and smaller the white space around page titles, images and text allow for better readability.
- Ditch the stock photography. It is easy to pick out generic stock photography. Using real images of your staff, products and services can build trust and can make you stand out from your competitors. No stock photography can connect to your brand better than your own real image. Click here to view an infographic from MDG Advertising about using high quality photos and why it matters.
- Use images wisely. Strategically place images on your website to break apart text. Use in conjunction with white space mentioned in tip number one and be sure it is relevant to what is being said on the page.
- Spruce up your website theme. Updating colors, buttons, images, spacing and layout can bring a whole new look to your website. Be sure to keep it consistent with your brand.

Put an end to the shivering! Although the winter season hauls
in frosty chaos and chilly temperatures, our warm and welcoming studio will
make taking holiday portraits seem like a mere breeze!
On Saturday, December 3rd only, bring up to 5
family members (please add $5 per additional member) and choose between a
Christmas Tree/Snowy Background, with or without Santa Clause. Sessions will
last ten minutes and there are no session fees. As always, pets are welcomed!
Photo packages start at $10. Various Christmas card designs
are also available. Be sure to RSVP to (860) 410-4303 to reserve a spot! All
that is needed is a small, $5 deposit.
After your session, you will be able to view and purchase your
photos, which will then be printed in a just few minutes, or be picked up on a
later date.
We are excited to take part in your holiday portraits this
year, as we are eager to see existing clients and to meet new ones!
