A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Let’s face it. Visual content has been trumping written content in the current advertising market. Does this mark the end of human’s desire to read? No, but what it does mean is that people have less time to spend reading and would rather be delivered knowledge visually. In response to the visual learning evolution, marketers have chosen to employ image-centric marketing over conventional, text-based approaches. Here are some facts:

·      The brain can process visual content quicker than written content
·      Images can trigger emotions, and thus be more persuasive than words alone
·      Social media, which involves a massive amount of visual content, is the most widely used marketing tactic (Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, etc.)
·      In fact, the most successful Facebook posts are visual

This does not mean you should flood your website with a truckload of images. Alternatively, it would be wise to consider these guidelines when collecting and prior to inserting images:

·      Use images that are meaningful to the topic at hand
·      Stay away from using images for decorative purposes
·      Choose images that match your brand values
·      Don’t use too many!
·      Try to use real photographs, or images that appear more authentic
·      Include concise captions
·      Size the images correctly
